3a/b. Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House

 

Address

95 Berkeley Street, Boston (near Back Bay Station, Commuter Rail and T stop). Volunteers will meet in the lobby of 95 Berkeley Street. After a brief orientation, volunteers will split into groups – approximately half will go to the building across the street and half will remain at 95 Berkeley Street.

22 total (10 with younger children; 12 with adult day program)

 

Project A: (10 volunteers)

Volunteers will be split into groups (or can select ahead of time) and work on several different activities with young children. 3 volunteers will go to the playground with the Preschool II class. 3 volunteers will go to Peter’s Park with the Kindergarten class. 3 volunteers will go to the Aquarium (if Ellis Memorial can get tickets donated) or a nearby park. 4 volunteers will help the teachers in the infant and toddler rooms.

 

Project B: (12 volunteers)

Working with the Adult Day Health Care Program on an arts & crafts project (6 different craft tables).

 

Attire

Casual (some activities will be outdoors, so sunscreen is recommended).

 

 

 

 

4. Colonel Daniel Marr Boys & Girls Club

5. Salvation Army

650 Dudley St., Dorchester (between Burgess and Clifton Streets right on the border of Dorchester and Roxbury)

Project

Clearing/ maintenance of an empty lot that will be the future site of a new community center. Project will include raking, weeding, trash pick up, etc. After lunch and wrap up of the project, the volunteers will be given a tour of one of the Salvation Army summer camps in the South End (short driving distance away).

 

Attire

Casual (clothing will likely be pretty dirty by the end of the day). Project will take place outdoors, so sunscreen, bug spray, pants (in case of poison ivy), and work gloves are recommended.

 

 

 

 

6. Community Servings

Directions

Orange Line to Stoney Brook Station. From T stop, proceed left, when you reach the first gateway turn left. Walk 200 yards down path, past Legal Services Building on you right. Our building is the next building on the right with a green bottom and white top. When you reach the skating rink, proceed to the right onto Marbury Terrace and the building is on your right.

Kitchen Volunteers help prepare and package meals. Assist with a variety of essential tasks from chopping and peeling fruits and vegetables.

 

Attire

Must wear closed toe shoes, must wear pants that fall below the knee. No tank tops allowed and shirts must cover your mid-section.

 

 

 

 

7. Bridge Over Troubled Waters

Project

Yard work including cutting the grass, trimming the shrubs, raking and if possible to bring grass seed to plant grass seed and flowers.

Casual (clothing will likely be pretty dirty by the end of the day). Project will take place outdoors, so sunscreen, bug spray, pants (in case of poison ivy), and work gloves are recommended.

 

 

 

 

8. Pine Street Inn

Kitchen Volunteers help prepare and package meals. Assist with a variety of essential tasks from chopping and peeling fruits and vegetables. The group will help prepare food from 9-11:45am, will be served lunch, then after lunch go on a tour.
